Tiffany chairs and Chiavari chairs often come up in the same conversation, but they are different pieces with different strengths. Knowing which suits your event will save you regretting the choice on the day.
Tiffany chairs have a plastic or resin body with a solid back panel and a padded seat. They stack easily, which makes storage and transport straightforward. Most are available in white, black, gold, and silver. Because the body is resin, they handle the knocks and weather that come with outdoor events better than wood, and they cost less to hire per unit.
The trade-off is the look up close. Resin does not have the same feel as a wooden frame, and at a high-budget formal event that can matter.
Chiavari chairs have a wooden or aluminium frame with an open back and a padded seat. They are lighter than they look, and the open-back design gives a more refined appearance. They are used at black tie dinners, wedding breakfasts, and formal galas where the look of the room matters as much as function.
The downside is that they are less suited to outdoor use. Wooden frames can be damaged in wet conditions, and the narrow feet can sink into soft ground. They also tend to cost more to hire.
For outdoor events on grass or gravel, Tiffany chairs handle the conditions better and clean up more easily afterwards.
For formal indoor dinners, wedding breakfasts, and award ceremonies, Chiavari chairs are worth the extra cost. The look is noticeably different once the room is dressed and lit.
If budget is the main consideration, Tiffany chairs deliver a smart result at a lower price. Most guests will not notice the difference once the tables are dressed.
Order one chair per seated guest, plus five to ten percent. For a 100-person dinner, order 105 to 110 chairs to cover setup errors and late additions.
