Patio heaters keep outdoor event spaces warm once the sun goes down. Whether it is a summer terrace event running into the evening or a winter outdoor wedding, a correctly spaced set of patio heaters extends the usable outdoor area without forcing guests inside.

For a typical outdoor covered terrace or marquee extension, one heater per 15–20 square metres of seating area gives a comfortable ambient temperature for guests in coats. For events in cold weather (below 5°C), increase density to one per 10 square metres. Open-sided marquees and uncovered terraces lose heat rapidly — heaters are most effective under a cover or in a sheltered space.
Order gas bottles alongside heaters. For a 4-hour event at full output, plan 1 cylinder per heater. For events over 8 hours, plan 2 cylinders per heater.
Patio heaters are hired separately from gas. Gas cylinders (propane 13kg) are available to hire from the same order. Add the heater and the number of cylinders you need to the basket.
Gas patio heaters can be used in well-ventilated marquees with open sides. They must not be used in enclosed spaces — adequate ventilation is essential. The venue or marquee supplier should confirm ventilation suitability before heaters are used indoors.
The pilot flame on gas patio heaters can extinguish in strong winds. Sheltered positions, windbreak screens or lower wind conditions give the most reliable performance. Check local conditions for outdoor events planned in exposed locations.
