Highball tumblers are tall glasses at 300 to 350ml capacity, suited to Gin and Tonics, Rum and Colas, soft drink serves with ice and any long mixer drink. They are one of the most commonly hired tumbler types and suit bars offering a standard spirits and mixer menu.
Rocks glasses are short, wide tumblers at 200 to 250ml capacity. They suit spirit serves over ice: whisky on the rocks, Negroni, Old Fashioned and similar short cocktails or straight spirit serves. A rocks glass is the correct vessel for any spirit drink served on a large cube of ice at a premium spirits bar.
Water tumblers or juice glasses are medium-height, straight-sided glasses at 250 to 300ml capacity. They are the standard choice for water service at tables during a formal dinner, soft drink service at events where alcohol is not being served, and juice service at breakfast or morning events.
Tumblers are needed at almost any event with a bar or drinks service. A formal dinner for 100 guests using a separate water glass per cover needs 100 water tumblers on the table before service begins. The bar needs additional highball glasses for the spirits and mixer serves throughout the evening.
Events where alcohol is not served, such as conference refreshment breaks and corporate meetings, use water tumblers or juice glasses for soft drink service. A delegate water glass on the conference table for 80 delegates requires 80 tumblers as a minimum, with additional glasses for the refreshment station.
Any event serving spirits needs rocks glasses or highballs depending on the menu. A mobile bar at a corporate event typically needs both types in circulation simultaneously.
