Hire examination desks and chairs for formal assessments, delivered to schools, universities and assessment centres across England and Wales.

Schools, universities, training companies, assessment centres and professional bodies all hire examination furniture when their regular seating does not meet the requirements for a formal exam or assessment session. The most common requirement is exam desks and chairs for a set number of candidates, laid out in rows with appropriate spacing.

Expo Hire stocks examination desks and stacking chairs suitable for formal assessment use. Orders can be placed for any quantity, with delivery timed to arrive before the assessment date. If you need to set up a temporary examination room or supplement existing provision, the items are available individually or as matched sets.

Examination desks and chairs

Exam desks are single-person writing surfaces designed for formal assessments. They provide a clear, uncluttered workspace for each candidate and stack for storage between sessions. Stacking chairs are ordered alongside desks as a matched set, or separately if the venue already has suitable seating.

The number of desks required is usually the number of candidates taking the exam at one sitting, plus a small number of spares. Some assessment centres prefer to order for the peak sitting and keep spares in a separate room rather than rearranging between sessions.

Room layouts

Standard exam layout places desks in rows with spacing between each candidate. The spacing required depends on the awarding body or institution's rules. A standard classroom can typically be set up for formal assessment without physical works, using hired furniture to replace or supplement fixed seating.

For larger assessments in sports halls or event spaces, the spacing of rows needs to account for supervision sightlines. The number of rows and the aisle arrangement is worth planning before placing the order, to confirm the quantities needed.

Multi-day and multi-session exams

For exam periods running across several days or weeks, the hire period covers the full duration. A single delivery and collection is more cost-effective than separate hires for each sitting. Equipment stays on site for the full period, allowing furniture to remain set up between sessions without needing to be moved and restacked each time.

Exam furniture can also be held for resit periods or for schools with staggered assessment timetables. When placing the order, give the date of the final sitting rather than the first, so collection is not scheduled prematurely.

Delivery and collection

Equipment is delivered on the date you specify and collected once the exam period is over. Delivery charges are calculated by mileage from the depot, shown at checkout. Collection can be timed for when the last sitting ends, with next-day collection available if the room needs to remain set up overnight.

Expo Hire delivers to schools, universities and assessment centres across England and Wales. Orders are placed online with no quote process. Stock levels are shown live at checkout, and there is no minimum order value for examination furniture hire.
