Blackrod is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton. It lies about four miles northwest of Wigan and seven miles northeast of Bolton. The town was once part of Lancashire and dates back to the 12th century. Following the industrial revolution, the main industry in the town was coal mining and brickmaking, all of which has now closed. The parish church of St Katherine of Alexandria is of Norman design but Elizabethan work can still be seen.
