Pickering is a market town in North Yorkshire, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. The town is situated to the north of Malton, and is connected to Scarborough to the east via the A170. The town was a prosperous one, thanks to being both a market town and an agricultural centre. There were watermills within the town and several inns that made it a centre for mail coach traffic during the 18th century.
