Originally built in 1574, it was altered several times, gaining its current "Regency Gothic" style at the beginning of the 19th century. The house was gutted by fire in 1985 and subsequently rebuilt. It is now a hotel, wedding and conference venue with various packages available to people looking to hire rooms for private and corporate events. There are 22 meeting rroms available for hire, with capacity from two to 100 delegates, plus two spaces which are licensed for civil weddings and partnerships.
