Safety equipment gets added to event orders at the last minute more often than it should. If you are running an outdoor event, a temporary catering kitchen, or any setup with electrical equipment or LPG appliances, the items below should be in your order from the start rather than sourced the day before.
\n\nWe hire multi-purpose fire extinguishers rated for Class A, B, C, and electrical fires. For catering areas with LPG equipment, we also hire quick-release fire blankets. Position both at the exit of any cooking area, and make sure anyone working in the kitchen knows where they are before service starts.
\n\nWe hire a catering first aid and burns kit configured for 10 people. For larger events, order multiples and position them near the catering area and at any dedicated first aid point on the site.
\n\nWe hire 5m 4-way extension cables and RCD circuit breakers. An RCD cuts power within milliseconds of a fault and is a standard requirement for outdoor electrical setups. If you are running equipment from a generator or an external power supply, hire an RCD to go between the supply and your appliances.
\n\nWe hire a 30w commercial fly killer for food preparation and service areas. For outdoor catering in summer, this is a practical requirement rather than an optional extra.

The standard requirement for most event venues is one 2kg CO2 extinguisher per cooking appliance and one 6-litre water extinguisher per 200 square metres of floor area. Outdoor events with LPG cooking need a dry powder extinguisher at each gas point. Confirm requirements with your event safety officer before ordering — local fire authority guidance can vary.
Events above 500 attendees typically require at least one staffed first aid point. The equipment at that point includes a stretcher, a first aid kit, and an AED defibrillator if one is not already present in the venue. Expo Hire supplies first aid kit infrastructure — staffing is a separate appointment through a first aid provider.
Temporary electrical setups at events require RCD protection at the source. Extension cables and multi-socket adaptors for public areas should be RCD-protected units. Expo Hire supplies commercial-grade extension cables and RCD adaptors tested before dispatch.
Interlocking crowd barriers and post-and-rope systems manage pedestrian flow and define safe zones around stages, cooking areas, and electrical equipment. For large outdoor events, the safety plan should specify barrier placement before the hire order is placed.
