Safety equipment gets added to event orders at the last minute more often than it should. If you are running an outdoor event, a temporary catering kitchen, or any setup with electrical equipment or LPG appliances, the items below should be in your order from the start rather than sourced the day before.
We hire multi-purpose fire extinguishers rated for Class A, B, C, and electrical fires. For catering areas with LPG equipment, we also hire quick-release fire blankets. Position both at the exit of any cooking area, and make sure anyone working in the kitchen knows where they are before service starts.
We hire a catering first aid and burns kit configured for 10 people. For larger events, order multiples and position them near the catering area and at any dedicated first aid point on the site.
We hire 5m 4-way extension cables and RCD circuit breakers. An RCD cuts power within milliseconds of a fault and is a standard requirement for outdoor electrical setups. If you are running equipment from a generator or an external power supply, hire an RCD to go between the supply and your appliances.
We hire a 30w commercial fly killer for food preparation and service areas. For outdoor catering in summer, this is a practical requirement rather than an optional extra.
