Fairford is a town in Gloucestershire, situated on the River Coln in the Cotswold Hills. It lies about six miles east of Cirencester, about four miles west of Lechlade and about nine miles north of Swindon. Both RAF Cosford and the Cotswold Water Park are located nearby. There has been a settlement in the area since the 9th century, while the town received a royal market grant in the 12th century. While there were three mills mentioned in the Domesday Book as being within the town, the mill that survives today dates back to the 17th century.
