For 100 guests, ten 6ft rounds seat everyone with no spare places. Thirteen 5ft rounds give you 104 seats, and guests at a table of eight find it easier to talk across the table. Chiavari chairs at round tables give you the most traditional wedding breakfast layout. Limewash Chiavari chairs suit barns and garden venues, white Chiavari chairs suit a light, classic scheme and black Chiavari chairs suit an evening reception or black-tie dinner. All three cost £4.25. The black chair comes with a matching black seat pad and the white chair with an ivory pad.
Ten Chiavari chairs and a 6ft round table cost £52.00, or £5.20 per guest. Dress the table with a 132 inch round cloth (£14.50) for a full floor-length drop and the cost rises to £6.65 per guest. A 5ft round takes a 120 inch round cloth for the same drop.
Solid oak cross back chairs suit long banquet rows in barns and country houses. They cost £4.50 each, and an ivory seat pad adds 50p.
Put two 6ft trestle tables end to end and you have a 12ft run that seats 12. With padded cross back chairs, that works out at £6.16 per guest. Cover each trestle with a 70 x 108 inch cloth. For a top table or family table of 10 to 12, a 96 x 50 inch oval gives guests more space at £6.33 per guest with padded cross backs.
The wishbone chair pairs a natural beech frame with a woven rattan seat. At £12.50 a chair it costs about three times as much as a Chiavari, so some couples use wishbone chairs for the top table and Chiavari chairs for everyone else.
If your ceremony and reception take place in different rooms, hire white folding chairs at £1.65 each for the ceremony rows. Your team then has no need to carry Chiavari chairs between rooms mid-afternoon, and the folding chairs fold flat once the ceremony ends. A hundred cost £165.
