Ramsbottom is a market town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, in Greater Manchester. It is situated on the River Irwell in the West Pennine Moors, and lies about four miles northwest of Bury and about 12 miles northwest of Manchester. As with much of the local area, Ramsbottom developed during the Industrial Revolution as a manufacturing and mill town. Mills were built for spinning, weaving and printing. Imports of foreign goods during the mid-20th century precipitated decline in industry in the area, causing the closure of factories and mills alike.
