Lydney is a town in Gloucestershire. It lies on the west bank of the River Severn, to the northeast of Chepstow and to the southeast of Monmouth. the town has a harbour on the Severn, which was created when the Lydney Canal was built. The town lies close to the Severn Railway Bridge, which was built just north of Lydney from Purton to Sharpness on the Eastern bank. Built in the 1870s, it was damaged beyong repair by a pair of oil tanker barges in 1960. There have been plans to renew the link, none of which have come to fruition. The railway station lies on the Gloucester to Newport line, which is supplemented by the CrossCountry Nottingham to Cardiff service.
