Featherstone is a town in the City of Wakefield, which lies about two miles southwest of Pontefract. Historically, the town was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire and was mentioned in the Domesday Book. Most population growth around the town took place around the Industrial Revolution when coal mining became the main industry of Featherstone, and like much of the surrounding area suffered as the coal pits closed in the 20th century.
