Castle Cary is a market town in Somerset, located about five miles northwest of Wincanton and about eight miles south of Shepton Mallet. The town was known for its cloth production in the 1700s, when linen replaced wool as the predominant textile being woven. This changed again in the 19th century as flax mills were established making twine, sail cloth and webbing. The town was granted Fairtrade Village status in 2004.
