Brierley is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, in South Yorkshire. The town lies to the northeast of Barnsley, and directly to the north of Grimethorpe. There was a fortified building called the Manor of Hall Steads in a well-hidden site between Brierley and Grimethorpe, which was built around the 14th century. Not much of the building remains, although many of the foundation stones lie in the soil along with fragments of pottery from that era.
