How to Create a VIP Entrance with Red Carpet and Barrier Hire

A well-set VIP entrance creates a moment of arrival that guests notice and remember.

The entrance to an event sets the tone for what follows. A red carpet with gold posts and black ropes communicates that the event is considered and guests are expected rather than just arriving. The VIP Red Carpet Package with Gold Posts and Black Ropes provides everything needed for this effect in a single hire.

What the Package Includes

\n\n

The VIP package includes a red carpet runner, gold-finished barrier posts, and black velvet ropes. The posts are weighted at the base and do not require fixing to the floor, which means they can be set up on any surface including carpet, tile, concrete, and tarmac. The carpet runner is wide enough to walk two abreast comfortably, which is the standard for photography at an entrance.

\n\n

The package is designed to be set up by two people in around 20 minutes. The posts connect to the ropes via swivel hooks, so the configuration can be adjusted during setup if the entrance geometry requires it.

\n\n

Layout Options

\n\n

The most common layout is a straight corridor from the pavement or car park entrance to the event door, with posts on both sides and ropes between them creating the channel. For venues with a wider entrance, a V-shaped approach funnels guests from a broad arrival point toward a single entrance door, which works well for photography because it creates a natural point where guests pause.

\n\n

For venues where the entrance is indoors, the carpet and posts work on carpet without any modification to the finish. On polished stone or wooden floors, weighted bases prevent the posts from sliding.

\n\n

Extending the Arrival Zone

\n\n

For events where crowd management along the route is also needed, Chrome Barrier Posts extend the queue management zone beyond the VIP entrance itself. Chrome posts alongside the red carpet approach create a clear distinction between the VIP arrival route and the general public queue.

\n\n

If you want to create a waiting or holding area near the entrance, a Three Seater Chesterfield in Black positioned beside the entrance gives VIP guests a place to gather before entry, which adds to the sense of occasion and prevents the entrance from becoming congested.

Barrier placement for red carpet events

Post-and-rope barriers define the carpet edges and create the perspective tunnel that makes a red carpet look formal. Place posts at 1.5m intervals down each side of the carpet. Add a return at the entrance to direct guests onto the carpet from the car arrival point. For a press call setup, position barriers at the back of the carpet zone to keep photographers separated from arriving guests.

Carpet length and width

A standard red carpet walkway is 1.5 to 2 metres wide and between 5 and 15 metres long depending on the venue approach. Longer carpets suit venues with a long approach route where the arrival experience is part of the event design. Shorter carpets work in urban venues where the footpath is narrow. Match carpet length to the actual usable approach, not the maximum.

Backdrop and step-and-repeat

For branded arrivals, a step-and-repeat backdrop behind the main doors gives press and social media photographers a branded background for arrival shots. The backdrop needs to be lit from the front — confirm venue lighting at the entrance point before designing the setup.
