Keeping Drinks Cold at Events: What to Hire

A glass-fronted display fridge at an event keeps drinks cold and visible without requiring a back-bar setup.

Keeping drinks cold at an event is straightforward at small scale. At medium and larger scale, a domestic fridge is inadequate and a bar back-fridge requires a full bar infrastructure around it. The Cabinet Display Fridge in White and Glass sits between these two options: it is a commercial-grade fridge with a glass front that can be positioned anywhere with a 13A power supply.

What the Display Fridge Provides

\n\n

The glass cabinet fridge has a glass front door and internal shelving that allows drinks to be displayed as well as chilled. This makes it well-suited to events where presentation matters: corporate hospitality, product launches, outdoor catering setups, and exhibition stands with a drinks service.

\n\n

The unit holds a significant quantity of canned and bottled drinks across its shelves. It maintains temperature in ambient conditions up to around 25 degrees Celsius, which covers most indoor event environments and shaded outdoor areas in England and Wales.

\n\n

Placement and Power

\n\n

The fridge requires a standard 13A socket. In practice, this means it can be placed almost anywhere at a venue, including outdoor marquees with a generator supply. The unit needs to run for at least two hours before the event starts to reach operating temperature, so factor this into your setup schedule.

\n\n

For outdoor events in direct sunlight, shade the unit if possible. A fridge working against direct sun in warm weather will run harder and may not maintain temperature as well as expected.

\n\n

Combining with Display Cabinets

\n\n

For exhibition stands or product showcases where you need both chilled and ambient display, the fridge pairs well with the Tallboy Display Cabinet for tall ambient items, or the Wideboy Display Cabinet with Drawer for wider, lower displays. Placing a fridge and a display cabinet side by side creates a compact service counter that reads as a coherent unit.

Back-bar fridges vs display fridges

Back-bar fridges sit behind the bar counter and keep stock cold during service. They are not designed for display. Display fridges have glass fronts and internal lighting — they work in a self-serve setting or anywhere bottles need to be visible. For a staffed bar, a back-bar fridge is the more practical choice. For a self-serve drinks station, a display fridge works better.

How many to order

A 150-litre fridge holds approximately 100 to 120 330ml cans or 60 to 70 standard bottles. For a 100-person event with a two-hour drinks reception, one 150-litre fridge is adequate for pre-chilled stock. If drinks are coming in ambient temperature, order 20% more fridge capacity to allow for chilling time during the event.

Ice and cooling

For wine service at table, ice buckets keep bottles cold during dinner without requiring a fridge at every table. One bucket per two tables is standard for a seated dinner. Read the glassware hire guide for wine service quantities.
