Edlington is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster in South Yorkshire. It lies to the southwest of Doncaster, and to the east of Conisborough. Like much of the surrounding area, Edlington was a coal mining town with the Yorkshire Main Colliery sunk within the town. The colliery closed in 1985 and in 1987 the 200 foot headstock winding tower was demolished. The colliery once had a war memorial commemorating workers who had died in World War I, whcih was moved to Edlington proper in the 1970s.
