Highbridge is a former market town in Somerset, situated on the edge of the Somerset Levels near the mouth of the River Brue. It lies about 20 miles northeast of Taunton, while Weston-Super-Mare is about ten miles to the north. The town was important as a regional market and industrial town during the latter half of the 19th century and early part of the 20th century. However, after World War II heavy industry and transport declined in the town and as the wharf was too small for the newer generation of ships the shipping trade moved away too.
