Bruton is a market town in Somerset, which is located on the River Brue and the A359 between Frome and Yeovil. It lies about seven miles southeast of Shepton Mallett and about 12 miles southwest of Frome. The Church of St Mary in the town was dounded by Ine of Wessex in the seventh century, with the current building dating back to around the 14th century. The Grade II* listed Dovecote which overlooks Bruton dates from the 16th century, and has been variously used as a house and as a watchtower as well as a dovecote.
